Great Value w/ Hidden Features
I purchased this stereo for less than 30% of the MSRP as refurbished.
I was worried that there was limited settings due to other peoples reviews, however, I discovered that this is untrue and that the features are semi hidden.
If you press and hold your SW Level button you can set speaker volumes individually. I prefer SW -4 decibels, and LS and RS +3 decibels.
For Aux: (Mono and stereo RCAs) Press your D[]PLII button to either Movie or Music for simulated surround.
For D-IN: (Optical in, from PS3 for me) Use your D[]PLII button to turn off PL. You have to set your D-IN to PCM under the menus at your DVD screen. I then had to set my PS3 to audio Optical out, and just add Dolby 5.1 and Dts 5.1. For some games, for me only BF:BC, there was NO sound. To correct this you have to change the PS3 audio out and deselect both Dolby and DTS, and the default two PCMS that it selects will give you 5.1. For some reason the game claims dolby 5.1, but if you select only dolby 5.1 all you hear are intermittent digital squacks. If you select more than just DTS and Dobly 5.1 you will get considerable sound clipping on all games and bluray sources.
Video: I have tried out the dvd upscaling and was displeased with the look, it may be my crappy LCD 720p tv with its horrible refresh rate. I bought this stereo for its sound, not its DVD playback... so this may be a more important feature for you, but it wasnt for me. My ps3 has fantastic standard DVD upscaling. (Update, upon comparison of this systems and the PS3s upscaling I found the panasonic upscaling to be grainy and washed. There is no comparison to the quality of the PS3s upscaling).
Radio: works fine, I tried it out. I was just testing it but is of little value to me.
Semi Wireless surround: there is a hub that plugs in behind you that wirelessly recieves sound signals from the main unit. The surround speakers plug into the hub. For some people this is a problem? I dont know why, i could care less as long as I dont have a cord running perpendicularly from my tv to behind me.
Overall: Great value and sound, 5.1 for [...] bucks with great bass and plenty of settings. There isnt much quite like playing cod4 in 5.1, you have to experience it.
I hope this helps people with their stereos, and that the misinformation about limited settings is put to rest. I reccomend this stereo, Id tell family and friends to buy it. I doubt there is a better value out there. Happy Shopping.

Excellent HTIB System
If you looking for a HTIB this System is great with it's 1000w sounds comming through-out your room. Have a HDMI connection for the upconversion five disc DVD plaver, just awesome for the price. Exactly what I was looking for with the intergrated I-pod system and rear wireless speakers. Very stylish looking too. Can't go wrong, trust me.

Not bad for the price
Maybe the customer service is bad, but that's no reason to give 1 or 2 stars. Their policies are always against the customer's interests.
I really like the sound and the idea of the wired/wireless surround speakers. The DVD player could be better, but it's not bad. Everything is good, but I haven't tried it with an ipod yet.
Setting the whole system up wasn't a problem, because i am somewhat used to it.
My only complaints so far are the unclear manual, not enough info on their website, and the subwoofer... it could be really loud if you live in an apartment, because it has three levels only (1/2/3).

Great customer support
We wanted a simple system with a good reputation and wireless speakers. When we saw this one at our local club warehouse at 9, we had to get it. We needed 2 HDMI cables because we were connecting our TV, a satellite box, a PS3, and the Panasonic DVD player. We were able to get surround sound going except for the PS3. One call to Panasonic and we had an American helping us. My husband could not be happier for the price we paid.

Great receiver+speakers, finnicky DVD changer
We bought this Sharp system (AT1000 Receiver + 5 speakers + subwoofer, AT4000 5-disk DVD changer) because we had read/heard good things about Sharp's "1-Bit" audio converter. Also, this was selling for considerably less than comparable models, yet sounded the same or better.
After owning this for over a month: The audio side of this HTIB is great. The receiver and speakers were a breeze to install. I was pleasantly surprised by the audio quality; especially the subwoofer since it is not a powered sub.
The only problem with this system is the DVD changer. The picture quality is good but changing DVDs is a little finnicky. Sometimes the carousel spins three times before letting you add or remove a DVD. Plus the DVD remote doesn't have all the features we had in our old DVD player. Try it out at the store first if you can since it is a little annoying to use everyday. Summary: For the price it sells for, I doubt there is another HTIB that's better all-round, especially in terms of sound quality.

I LOVE THIS system!
I got SO Tired of the ever-spiralling theatre tickets! For the price of a couple tickets, couple Pepsis and a tub of buttered popcorn, you can BUY two or three DVD! No more someone talking over the movies plot; no someone kicking the back of your seat the whole time no matter how many times you ask them to stop; no stick floors from dropped drinks; no eegits screaming "Don't go in there, man!" or "What till you see where he kills here" thus revealing the whole plot because that was the 12th time the saw the movie today!!! No traffic jams or parking on the far 40!Now you can sit in the comfort of your own home and watch what you want, and if someone talks over a crucial point in the plot...hey, rewind!! The power of the speakers are amazing, once you experience the range of sound rocking your house with Dobey Sensurround you will wonder how you ever did without this system before. Was easy to install, love the multiple DVD changer...you will be able to put all three Rings movies in at once and sit back and satisfy your addiction!Couple this set up with a big screen HDTV...and you will be in movie heaven. Frodo and Aragon will never be the same!!

Great sound for the price
I am really happy with this system, especially at the price it's a good buy. The biggest negative is the lack of "audio in" on the back. I didn't know that until I got home and went to plug some things in. I had to connect it differently than I had wanted, and if I expand in the future it will be difficult, but again, for the price I am very happy!

Basic System
We're not audiophiles but a new 47" hdtv deserves good sound, right? So, we just grabbed the cheapest one which happened to be this unit. It was so easy to hook up that I thought I must have done something wrong or missed something but it works great. The sound is fine for these old ears and I'm still trying to figure out the different formats. It has a plug in for the ipod but I have to buy a dock separate. There is also no digital audio in or a lot of other plug options in the back. I guess I can use rca Y cables at teh audio input if we get a blueray player in the future, huh? The unit also takes up a lot of shelf space being wide and deep, though thin. The remote is bland and difficult to use in low light. It has an am/fm tuner so it can double as a mini stereo system without a lot of hardware.

Excellent product from SHARP
I've had the unit for about two years now and I'm very satisfied. The quality of the picture and sound are excellent. It has 5.1 Surround and PRO Logic, which is a neat feature that let me hook up my VCR to one of the 3 AUX inputs and watch VHS tapes in surround (The VCR is HIFI stereo, also a SHARP, and the tapes have to be recorded with surround). It has advanced features like optical digital output and supports DTS. The speakers are very nice and they make it great both for movies and for music. The best part is that EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS INCLUDED (except for the popcorn)! Bottom line is that I highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants high-end home theatre experience at a great price!

I LOVE MY SHARP HOME THEATER IN A BOX!
I purchased the Sharp DVA1000 in 1999. I have schooled many friends and family members about the beauty of a dvd home theater. This system has excellent sound and video quality. This system makes me feel like I'm riding shotgun in action flicks like "Set It Off". And I felt like I could reach out and hand Taye Diggs a rubber duckie during the bubble bath scene in "The Best Man". Make sure you have at least a 32" TV with 500 lines of resolution to give your dvd system a proper canvas to paint your dvd dreams. Also, make sure you buy a dvd to calibrate your system and TV. If you own "T2" The Collectors Edition. Go to the menu for THX set-up and it will walk you thru making sure your sound and audio are properly adjusted for maximum quality. The only drawback to this system is that it can't play CDRs or CDRWs. It can only play traditional CDs. That's OK. I have a CD player for that. I plan on buying another Sharp DVA1000 for my bedroom in the very near future.Great price.Great system!P.S. I'm a woman and I assembled the system all by myself!It's easy if you follow the instructions. I had to read them several times before I built up my confidence.Don't let the big box overwhelm you. Even the speaker wire was included!I actually gave away my VCR after purchasing this system.:-)

Good product - extremly poor (no) after sales support
This is a very good feature package - an out of the box home theater minus a TV at a good price. That is why I bought it. It worked fine for a year (and I really enjoyed it as long as it was working fully) and now the system does not recognizes DVDs. It can still play CDs though, and the audio quality is still good.
